I Have a General Under Honorable Discharge for Drug Abuse From the Air Force What Jobs Can I Get?

Question by Devin: I have a General under honorable discharge for from the air force what jobs can I get?
I was discharged from the Airforce in 2011. People say it is a hard battle to get your discharge upgraded. I was discharged for smoking spice one time and received a article 15. My dd214 only shows General Under Honorable for the discharge and Misconduct- Drug Abuse. I am loosing so many jobs over this piece of paper. I dont know what is better to omit I even served or to tell the truth and keep getting turned away. Is their anyone that has similar circumstances and has a decent job. Im also in school for surgical tech and Im starting to get worried that even my degree wont over shadow the fact that I was discharged this way.

McDonalds MIGHT take you as a burger flipper, but even that is iffy because no civilian company wants a druggie working for them. The issues of liability for them are too high by having a druggy employed by them.

  • USAFisnumber1 says:

The time to fight a discharge is before you take it.

You can only get it upgraded if you can prove they did not follow the regulations and law in regards to the discharge.

Can you prove you did not use spice?
Can you prove it was not against regulations?
can you prove the drug test was done wrong?
can you prove that being discharged is not allowed in drug use cases?
Can you prove you were not given the chance to protest the discharge before you got it?

Getting an upgrade for something like drugs is almost impossible. Your best bet is do good in school, keep out of trouble with the law, DO NOT DO DRUGS and you will get a job.

If you’re looking at a place that doesn’t hire many veterans, or doesn’t know their way around a DD-214, you might be okay. Lots of places don’t know the difference between “GUHC” and “Honorable”.

Anything government or veteran heavy is a non-starter, since they will know.

  • Marine5 says:
