I got a job as a security guard for a private security company in NJ….they told me that i have to come back tomorrow to take a drug test in the office…..Is it even legal for them to make me take a drug test in the office and not in a lab…..also can my employer come in and watch me give the specimen????Serious answers only please. Thanks

In general if it is part of the requirement for employment it is legal your only issue may be the right to some what privacy in taking the drug test but that will be balanced by the fact of the right of the company to ensure a proper test is administered

i believe they can send a tech from the lab to collect the specimen. DO NOT let it out of your line of sight until it’s sealed and you put your initials on the container(s).
No, that is not how it is done. They have to send you to a lab and put a die in teh toilet water to make sure you don’t flush it until after they check the specimen. If I remember well, you have to pee the rest of it in there, but not flush it.
Yes they have the right to do the drug test at their office. I have never heard of employer watching……I think that is just for someone in rehab or seeing their probation officer.
They cannot make you. They can only say that it is a condition of employment.
It should be done in a lab and I find this kind of odd. As for watching there are methods to insure that you can’t screw with the results but other than in prison I don’t know of any instance where someone in a private firm observes you.
Yes it is legal to take a drug test. the reason for that is they don’t want a drugged up looser working for them!!!

That sounds strange. A lot of businesses tend to have drug tests done at a trusted third party “drug testing” location in their town. It’s cheaper that way.
Example:
Business A, Business B, and Business C send their new workers to get their drug tests at PeeTestLab in HickVille, USA. PeeTestLab does nothing but drug tests and blood tests.
I have taken many drug tests in the office of the future employer. They usually stand behind you so you cannot use another hidden specimen for the test.
I work for an employer that does the pre-employment drug testing on site. YES, they can do it, if it required before you get the job. First they fill the paperwork out, you then take EVERYTHING out of your pockets and put them in a box (it has a lock. You hold the key the whole time) Then they put a dye in the toilet. YOU DON’T FLUSH and watch them seal it and they will do the drug test right in front of you.
The ONLY time my employer sends the test to the lab is when you get into and work related accident.

Some employer’s do make you go to a lab though
Just make sure your “clean” and you have nothing to worry about.. Where or how they will be doing the test.
