Bible Scriptures:About Overcoming Drug Addiction?
Question by : Bible Scriptures:About overcoming drug addiction?
can anyone help me find really nice scriptures related to that…
or about god helping us get through tough times.
And I know the bible doesn’t directly talk about illegal drug use..
but I hope you understand what I mean.
If you can’t think of anything from the bible, maybe you know a poem or song lyrics.
Thanks 🙂

If God is for me ,who can be against me…
I can only give my experience on the matter. He helped me once and I went back, like a pig going back to his slop (somewhere mentioned in the bible) and so the second time He more or less told me that if I really wanted to quit to quit myself and to quit bugging Him about matters that I’m not serious about.
Being addicted to drugs is same as being a slave to sin.
1Co 3:16 Know ye not that ye are the temple of God, and that the Spirit of God dwelleth in you?
1Co 3:17 If any man defile the temple of God, him shall God destroy; for the temple of God is holy, which temple ye are.
Peace!
He replied, “Because you have so little faith. I tell you the truth, if you have faith as small as a mustard seed, you can say to this mountain, ‘Move from here to there’ and it will move. Nothing will be impossible for you.”
-Matthew 17:20
There is no such thing as addiction discussed in the Bible. The Bible calls it lust. Lust is an intense craving and desire for that which God clearly forbids either by direct command or clear principle.
As Christians, we are not to be controlled by anything other than the Holy Spirit (Ephesians 5:18); and definitely not lust (James 1:15).
Therefore, illegal drugs, alcohol, and smoking etc. are a no-no for a believer. I John 2:15-17, “Love not the world, neither the things [that are] in the world. If any man love the world, the love of the Father is not in him. 16 For all that is in the world, the lust of the flesh, and the lust of the eyes, and the pride of life, is not of the Father, but is of the world. 17 And the world passeth away, and the lust thereof: but he that doeth the will of God abideth for ever.”
Learn to walk in the Spirit and you will not follow the desires of the flesh – Galatians 5:16.
To walk in the Spirit, we must spend time reading God’s Word, the Bible, and learning how to live life from God’s perspective. We also need to spend sometime in prayer and fellowship with Him and other believers who have the desire to grow in the Lord and their walk with God. Seek out a bible-believeing church and pastor to help you through this.
I am a Christ Follower who is both Alcoholic and a Drug Addict. Addiction is the flesh. It is not a spiritual matter other then fact that the spirit and the flesh are linked together. When I heard the truth, I was scared to say the least, but after I came to grips with reality, I received a lot of help from the Holy Spirit and have remained sober.
Addiction is not GOD’s problem. We created the bondage ourselves and any honest addict will know that we went through great effort to get addicted to whatever it is. Sometimes almost killing ourselves just so we can get to that point where we could enjoy the drug.
Addiction is not a demon. It is our flesh and selfishness run riot.
We crucify the flesh. Crucifixion is very painful. GOD will help us but will do no more then an earthly parent can do. We need to take up that cross and meet the problem head on.
We do that by STARVING THE FLESH. And then replacing it with FEEDING THE SPIRIT.
You will find that everything I have said is backed up by Romans chapter 7 and 8.
We are saved from Hell by Christ finished work on the cross. We are free from addiction when we decide to kill the wretched sinner that we are and allow GOD to raise us from the dead; glorified in Christ Jesus!
Drug addiction is actually a bondage of your body and to be set free of that bondage Jesus said this….
John 8:31-32
If ye continue in MY WORD, then are ye my disciples indeed;
32 And ye shall know the truth, and the truth SHALL MAKE YOU FREE.
We need to read and study the bible and live according to the teachings of Jesus and the disciples and we will be set free of all addictions.
We all have different challenges in our lives. For this reason the lord wants us to pray unto him for help, that we may be able to over come our weakness. Prayer is a gift from our heavenly father that can bring us closer to him ,and when we do we can feel of his love and spirit touch our hearts. Remember that he know the trials that you are going thru at this time and the pain and suffering that are before you. He wait for you to call upon him for help, for he will not take our free agency away from us . For we all have our free agency to choose for our selves Good or evil. GO ON BENDING KNEES Amen
