Drug Abuse Omaha: Are You Living Your Faith – Leaving Them Wanting More?
Faith is the substance of things hoped for; the evidence of things yet not seen.
Are you living your faith leaving them wanting more? How do you answer that question in regards to your own life? I would like to evaluate this more closely by sharing my own story with you.
I have had a love for horses since I was a little girl. My father was a Livestock Dealer, but he loved Thoroughbred Horse Racing. Being my father’s daughter, I also developed a strong love for Horse Racing…it became my passion and ministry for many years.
When the Lord called me into this challenging; yet rewarding ministry; He said: “I have called you to bear fruit in a very hard place!” He then gave me: Jeremiah 29: 11-14 ”For I know the plans I have for you,” declares the LORD, “plans to prosper you and not to harm you, plans to give you hope and a future. Then you will call upon me and come and pray to me, and I will listen to you. You will seek me and find me when you seek me with your whole heart. I will be found by you,” declares the LORD, “and will bring you back from captivity. I will gather you from all the nations and places where I have banished you, and will bring you back to the place from which I carried you into exile.”
My amazing journey starts at AkSarben Race Track in Omaha Nebraska. I knew they held a church service once a week…I was very excited to attend. Our Chaplain was actually a Rodeo Chaplain that the Lord called to the Race Track Ministry for a season. I learned so much about the Love of God during that time. I saw in this Chaplain and his beautiful wife a perfect example of Living Your Faith. I was hooked! Unfortunately for me, they were only there for the meet.
I was left with a Burning Passion…definitely wanting more! When I look back, I sincerely believe God sent them there just for me. Having their beautiful example to guide me; my journey of Living Your Faith carried me to many different race tracks and presented me with unending challenges. You see…When the Lord told me it was a very hard place…HE WAS NOT KIDDING! Back then, a large majority of the backside were…alcoholics, drug addicts, abused, homeless, or hiding from the outside world.
I made my commitment to the Lord; and to the Race Track Ministry. I asked God to make me a Living Example of His Love! Now! I am far from perfect; and I made many, many mistakes. Yet my Heart was totally sold out to God and I was filled to overflowing with Love & Compassion for the horses and every wounded soul.
I soon realized that my music was a powerful tool to reach others. Most people do not like to be preached to. They are however, usually touched when they hear Anointed music; and the response is usually overwhelming. The words in a song, and the way it is sung will often capture an audience more than a sermon. I would always sing Praise & Worship songs, while I was working with my horses and walking around the barns. It was not long before the others would be singing right along with me. I would also play the piano and sing for some of the church services. I was branding myself without even knowing it.
When I started my Living Your Faith journey, the Backside was the darkest place on this earth. I made many sacrifices. I was judged and ridiculed by other Christians, but I never wavered in my commitment. God was there with me every step of the way, always reassuring me. For many years I was faithful to Pray, to Mourn, to Travail and plant seeds for this ministry. Can I tell you…The rewards far outweigh the sacrifices and challenges.
Today the race tracks are being filled with The Light. I see owners, trainers, jockeys, grooms and many others continually giving Praise and Glory To God. I see bible studies being held regularly on the backside. It brings tears to my eyes…I can’t describe to you the overwhelming Joy that fills my heart.
Hopefully I was a small part in leaving them wanting more; to make the changes that we see today.
This is what Living Your Faith means to me!
