Drug Treatment Centers Nebraska: Drugs to Treat ADHD – Who Else Wants to Discover Safer and More Effective Ways?
You would think that the drugs to treat ADHD would be well established and would be much more effective than they are. It will come as no surprise that the latest study on one of the non stimulant drugs showed that in the long term, children were not deriving any benefit at all in how they were behaving and in how they were doing academically.
The study which was conducted at the University of Nebraska Medical Center concentrated on the main ingredient of the non-stimulant drugs to treat ADHD which is known as atomoxetine. They found that the children who were suffering from ADHD were put on this drug for about two months.
Certainly there were definite improvements in some of the classic ADHD symptoms such as restlessness, inattention and impulsivity. But when they examined the effects on the actual behavior patterns and the academic results, they were surprised to find that there was no difference between these children and the placebo group. In addition it seems that some symptoms did not improve at all.
In looking at how to treat ADHD, parents always look at side effects and the atomexetine is no exception in that there are sometimes an allergic reaction, chest pain, shortness of breath, fainting, hallucinations and stomach upsets. There is also a warning from the MHRA (Medicines and Healthcare Regulatory Agency) which says that there have been cases of manic episodes and psychotic disorders.
It seems that drugs to treat ADHD have their limitations, a few advantages and many worrying issues such as the long term effects on the developing brain of the child. It is estimated that our brains go on developing until the age of twenty five so any drugs which act on the neurotransmitters by stimulating them in an unnatural way must and does cause great concern.
Homeopathic remedies have been much praised and also scorned. It depends what line one takes. It seems that many drug companies are paying for research which aims to show that these remedies are ineffective. It is strange that they are using standard double blind and randomized trials which can really only be used with conventional meds. Homeopathic remedies act in a completely different way so there must a radical change in how we judge their efficacy and their success.
Whatever the results of all the trials, both negative and positive, one thing stands out and has never been disproved in the two hundred years of its existence. These types of drugs to treat ADHD have no side effects or long term health risks. That is itself a guarantee that this could be the real deal for our children. Why not discover how this type of treatment is probably the safest in the world?
Love, cherish and protect your child. Experts now tell us that child behavior modification is one of the ways to treat ADHD. Discover what are the other ways.
