Jill and Jesse – an Extraordinary Adoption Story – the Nebraska Medical Center

Jill and Jesse – An Extraordinary Adoption Story – The Nebraska Medical Center – Jesse was born with the odds stacked against him. His mother had abused drugs. He was born with serious medical conditions; doctors were unsure whether he’d ever walk or even sit up on his own. He was fed through a tube in his belly. One of his nurses in The Nebraska Medical Center’s newborn intensive care unit formed a special bond with him. And when she heard foster families were having a difficult time caring for Jesse, Jill, his former nurse stepped forward. “I’ll take him,” she remembers saying. She legally adopted Jesse and brought him home. Now five years later, Jesse not only sits up and walks, but he runs and eats on his own. “He’s just perfect,” Jill says. “Ha!” Jesse says as his mom describes him as a “spunky boy.” The boy who was born with challenges most kids never have to face is preparing for a new challenge; just like every other five year old – kindergarten.
