Hi,
Why Is Drug Addiction Considered a Disease?
Question by fraucarlson: Why is drug addiction considered a disease?
I have a psychological disorder I was born with and inherited. I have a hard time equating what I have as similar to a drug addiction. I didn’t choose my path. So can someone explain to me why it’s considered a disease?

Answer by KIM!!
I guess because addictions are mental disorders. When someone is addicted.to something they really cannot stop. Stopping means they suffer. It hurts them physically to be without their drug. Because their brain has been convinced that they NEED this drug, alcohol, or food to survive. But I certainly understand why you would be frustrated when you have a disease that you were born with.

Looking for a Drug-Free Psych Doctor for My Son.?
Question by Dawn: Looking for a drug-free Psych doctor for my son.?
My son who is 22 has taken long-term medications for his OCD, one anti-psychotic for nearly seven years! In the last few months, his Psych. doc has had to change his SSRI medication over and over, due to side effects as well, but these seem to be causing more side effects and problems. He is either manic or can barely keep his eyes open. I am seeking a Psychiatrist who can wean my son off of all of his meds under supervision (my son’s desire as well) and treat his issues drug-free if possible. Prefer a doctor in Washington state (where we live), Oregon or Northern California. The Psych docs here (we are in a small town) in the last few days, have only wanted to sub new meds for the old, many of these drugs have long-term serious health risks. Please help us if you have any leads for us. Thank you all so very much.
How to Mess With a Marijuana Drugs Counselor?
Question by Ian: How to mess with a marijuana drugs counselor?
Hello everyone. So I’m being forced to go to counseling for my “marijuana addiction” and I find the whole situation quite absurd. I’m a minor, but I don’t have any intention of stopping my use of weed anytime soon. Because I’m going to these ridiculous counseling sessions, I’ve decided I want to have some fun and just screw with the counselor and try to mind-f*@k him. Any ideas?

As long as you know the side effects marijuana does to your body in the long run, than you’re fine. Just pretend that you’re listening to the counselor.
