    outpatient- You get to go home
    inpatient- you have to stay there.

    Inpatient you live in the hospital where you are watched and monitored 24/7. Outpatient you only spend a normal 8 hour day there. You do have to urinate in a cup to prove you are clean. You also have to comply with the outpatient rules.
